The average K-Cup has 9 to 12 grams (0.3 to 0.4 ounces) of ground coffee. The actual amount inside your K-Cups depends on which brand you buy. You’ll also find slightly more coffee in dark roast K-Cups — so if you want the most bang for your buck, you may want to stick to robust blends.
James Lambert says… A good cup of coffee is made with roughly 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6–8 ounces of water. Based on that basic principal a k-cup shouldn’t make more than about 4oz of good coffee but most of the machines give you options for making between 6 and 12 oz per cycle.
Those cups are filled with real ground coffee in an airtight container. When you place them in the Keurig machine and start a coffee, the machine punctures the K Cup and sends through very hot water, which brews the coffee right in that K cup and then goes through the rest of the machine and into your coffee cup.
